So this is an interesting aspect. What makes the imperial units so confusing is how it is not consistent with the base that we do everyday math in and that the base keeps on changing. The last part in particular means there is too much information and complex rules rather than simple rules. What makes metric good is the units just follow the decimal base. So it may not be the best system but the amount of consistency just means there is so much less mental effort in the metric system.

The hyperoptimization may be good for each of their particular usecases but taken together it becomes overwhelming.
